Job summary

Forest Hills Public School District Central High in Grand Rapids, Michigan seeks an Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach for a part-time position. The role reports to the Athletic Director and Principal and follows the district Master Agreement regarding compensation.

The coach will help student-athletes develop basketball skills, sportsmanship, and self-esteem while maintaining communication with families, fellow coaches, and school leadership.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills with parents and students required.
• Basketball and/or coaching experience preferred.
• First aid and CPR knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and communicate clear and specific goals for the team and individual players.
• Develop the skills of players specific to basketball.
• Establish a team that demonstrates good sportsmanship.
• Maintain open and honest communication with students, parents, other coaches, and Athletic Director.
• Create an environment in which athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image.
• Demonstrate understanding of leadership best practices specific to the sport and age group.
• Support student academic expectations, responsibilities, and achievements.
• Develop knowledge of Forest Hills Public Schools policies for athletics.
• Promote and enforce the student-athlete code of conduct.
• Connect athletic experiences with life experiences.
• Provide atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among coaches and players.
• Model good sportsmanship always.
• Create and maintain a safe and healthy environment for student athletes.
• Ability to commit to a flexible time commitment.
• Consistent and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
