Job summary

Origin Specialty Underwriters is seeking an Underwriting Assistant to support underwriting of construction risks, including site prep, excavation, grading, utility, earthmoving, and infrastructure contractors. You will work with brokers, underwriters, and leadership to drive profitable growth and exceptional service.

The role requires 1–3 years of commercial insurance experience, strong analytical and communication skills, and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and authority levels.

Position Summary

The Underwriting Assistant supports the underwriting and management of construction risks, including site preparation, excavation, grading, utility, earthmoving, and infrastructure contractors. This role works closely with brokers, underwriters, and leadership to support profitable growth and exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and process new and renewal submissions.
• Analyze risk characteristics, loss runs, and underwriting information.
• Assist with pricing, quoting, policy issuance, and documentation.
• Manage renewal activity and support portfolio profitability goals.

Preferred Industry Experience

Experience with one or more of the following contractor classes:

• Site Preparation
• Excavation
• Utility
• Grading & Earthmoving
• Sewer & Water Main
• Infrastructure
• Concrete & Paving
• Landscaping

Qualifications:

Required

• 1-3 years of commercial insurance experience
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Experience reviewing loss runs and risk information
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Preferred

• MGA, E&S, or specialty insurance experience
• Experience with site prep, excavation, utilities, or infrastructure risks
