Job summary

PacifiCorp in Portland, OR is seeking an Assistant Underground Cable Splicer. The role supports a Journeyman Lineman and advances to Cable Splicer after 2–2.5 years with demonstrated ability.

Candidates must complete formal Journeyman Lineman training and hold a Journeyman certification or testing status. The position requires a Class A CDL, post-offer physical capacity screening, and the ability to perform demanding field work with heavy lifting.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have hot stick training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist Underground Cable Splicer under supervision and gain skills for all Cable Splicer duties.
• May supervise employees when working with a Cable Splicer or Underground Foreman.
• Advancement to Cable Splicer after 2 to 2.5 years of continuous service and demonstrated ability.

Job description

LOCATION: PORTLAND, OR, US 97211

General Purpose

An Assistant Underground Cable Splicer is a Journeyman Lineman who works under the supervision of an Underground Foreman, Underground Working Foreman, or Cable Splicer for the purpose of acquiring skills and knowledge to perform all aspects of Cable Splicer duties. An Assistant Cable Splicer may supervise employees per Section 16.4.3 and perform work consistent with their status as a Journeyman Lineman. When two Assistant Cable Splicers work together with no supervision from a Cable Splicer or Underground Foreman then one of the Assistant Cable Splicers will be paid at the Cable Splicer rate. Upon completion of not less than two years and not more than 2 ½ years continuous service as an Assistant Cable Splicer and with demonstrated ability and knowledge through testing and joint review of all aspects of network system operation and construction and maintenance practices and procedures, they shall be advanced to Cable Splicer.

Requirements

• A high school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A Journeyman Lineman certification or testing through IBEW Local 125.
• Completion of a formal training program for a Journeyman Lineman.
• Must meet examining board review of skills and experience.
• Candidate must have formal hot stick training and experience.
• Must own, or be able to obtain, a Class A Commercial Driver's License.

This position requires a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.

Physical Demands

The job duties of Lineman require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force. Job duties of the Lineman require sustained, awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body and overhead. Additional requirements of the Lineman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $63.05 per hour
