Job summary

Dot Foods, Inc. in University Park, IL, is seeking an Assistant Transportation Manager to assist the Director of Transportation with fleet performance, budgeting, safety, and staffing. You will help recruit, onboard drivers and manage operations for efficient service.

The role schedules Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM with on-call responsibilities; travel about 2–3 nights per year to training or meetings, and you will lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean methods.

Location: University Park, IL
Department: Dot Transportation, Inc. (DTI)
Reports To: Director of Transportation
Salary Range: $78,019 - $117,029 annually, plus bonus opportunity

As an Assistant Transportation Manager, you will aid the Director of Transportation in establishing and maintaining Dot Transportation’s fleet performance in all areas of our business including recruiting, retention, operations, safety, budgeting, etc.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Coordinate with dispatch for efficient and effective fleet resource utilization
• Assist with vehicle safety issues
• Conduct driver reviews
• Support overall dispatch and traffic management goals
• Coordinate training for drivers based on individual performance within key areas
• Assist with budget preparation and execution
• Assist with recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new drivers
• Manage the on-board computer system and hours of service for all drivers.
• Lead continuous improvement efforts while applying lean thinking and tools to eliminate waste

YOU MUST HAVE

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent Dot Foods experience
• Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Computer skills, experience in using Microsoft Office programs/ applications
• Ability to function in a multi-task environment

YOU MAY ALSO HAVE

• Prior management experience
• Prior transportation experience
• Ability to influence desired behavior change with internal/external customers and vendors
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in one-on-one and group settings

ROLE SPECIFICS

• Schedule- Monday – Friday (8AM-5PM) with on-call responsibilities
• Supervision – Assigned drivers & dispatch staff
• Travel – Approx. 2-3 nights per year. Must have ability to travel independently as needed, without restriction by all modes of transportation, including car, plane, or train for training or meetings
