Scope and Responsibilities
Some of your duties will include:
- Is responsible for transportation activities in absence of Transportation Manager
- Serves as manager in charge on assigned shift
- Responsible for the safety of all employees and the efficient performance of their duties
- Ensures all employees on shift are fully trained and proficient in assigned duties
- Responsible for Showcase Standards on assigned shift
- Fills in for Supervisor when absent (Must have proficient working knowledge of Supervisor responsibilities must be able to proficiently perform at least one Team Member’s duties)
- Leads and participates in projects; promotes project management excellence; demonstrates working knowledge of six sigma and lean principles
- Responsible to learn and show proficiency in Transportation Management functions including, but not limited to employee performance management, budgeting and cost control; asset management; intercompany communication, customer relationships and development, etc.
- Adhere to written work instructions, ensuring accurate and safe execution of tasks.
- Work safely, utilizing all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), and promptly escalate any potential safety or quality concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Uphold safety and security standards by immediately reporting any items or individuals within the service center that appear to be out of order to management.
- Dispatch 100% Legal and Safe—Do not ever knowingly dispatch a load that cannot be delivered in compliance with all applicable regulations and company rules and/or that cannot be delivered safely
- Ensure that all drivers are completely informed of the requirements of all dispatches
- Ensure that trucks are inspected before each trip; that inspections are documented; and, that all safety issues are properly addressed before the truck goes on the road
- Ensure that maintenance is properly scheduled, documented and performed in accordance with the schedule
- Anticipate, plan and prepare for illness, driver planned and unplanned time off, mechanical breakdowns, maintenance downtime, unscheduled customer requirements and inclement weather (Develop a documented Business Continuity Plan for transportation).
- Ensure that drivers and operations are aware of scheduled appointment times and assist them in meeting them
- Ensure appropriate communication with customers at the earliest possible time that any appointment time cannot be met.
- Maintain up-to-date records (scorecards, MMFs, etc.) on the performance (good and bad) for all drivers and any other assigned staff
- Maintain an open-door policy and promptly and assertively handle employee questions and concerns
- Ensure that safety meetings are regularly scheduled, held and documented in accordance with company and site policy.
- Ensure that training of all employees is scheduled, achieved and documented in accordance with company and site policy
- Ensure that JBDs, WIs and SOPs are written and up to date
- Maintain and communicate work schedules for all assigned employees
- Ensure that all paperwork requirements are accurate, properly distributed, completed and filed in a timely manner.
- Recruit, interview, select and hire drivers of the highest available attributes, skills and knowledge, as needed, and be proactive in locating drivers for future hire
- Consistently communicate to all employees that safety is our most important responsibility and that we absolutely adhere, as individuals and a company, to our core values

Qualifications
You should have the following:
- Demonstrated capacity for collaboration, with ability to work cross-functionally in fast-paced environment.

- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and shift tasks quickly as well as work independently.

Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable alternative of successful management experience
- Two years of transportation management experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of DOT and PHMSA regulations.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency at the completion of initial training.
Communication Skills:
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse team.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in computer skills, including knowledge of manufacturing software, order processing systems, warehouse management software, and Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook)
- Proficient in McLeod dispatch software and Samsara GPS/ELD.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
You’ll also need to be able to:
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
- See both distance and details at close range, within a few feet of the observer (with or without corrective lenses).
- Identify and understand the speech of another person (with or without a personal auditory hearing device).
- Adapt your schedule as needed to accommodate the business requirements, which may involve occasional early arrivals, late stays, and last-minute adjustments.
