The State of North Carolina is seeking an Assistant Traffic Engineer for the NCDOT Division 9 in Forsyth County. This role will involve traffic impact analysis, safety studies, and supervising traffic control device operations while contributing to the safety and efficiency of transportation systems. Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in engineering and demonstrate relevant experience.

This position will serve as the Assistant Traffic Engineer in the Division 9 Traffic Unit in Forsyth County. This position will be responsible for reviewing traffic impact analysis and project plans, performing general safety and mobility traffic studies, handling necessary coordination and/or inspection for projects under design and construction that the Traffic unit is overseeing; As well as attending meeting related to these items as needed. This position will be responsible for coordinating the operations of the Division’s Traffic Signing and Pavement Marking Group. The selected applicant will lead subordinate employees in applying Traffic Engineering Principles in the operation and maintenance of Traffic Control Devices in the Division. Additional duties will involve performing Traffic Engineering investigations, evaluation of the safety and operation of the roadway system and recommending adjustments as needed and making recommendations and seeking funds for safety and operational improvements. The selected applicant must havethe ability to provideprofessional engineering skills and knowledge needed to perform and evaluate investigation such as requests for speed limit modifications, pavement marking modifications and safety studies. Must possess thorough knowledge of the MUTCD. Must have the ability to promote safety and safe working environments. Must have the ability to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, personnel, and the general public. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.Safety-toed shoes required.

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
