Overview

Position: Assistant Thrift Store Manager

Location: Chambersburg – Thrift Store Services

Availability of Position: ASAP

Schedule: Part-time Plus, 28 hours per week

Reporting Relationship: Thrift Store Manager

Salary and Grade: $15.00 per hour / 71

Position Overview:

The Assistant Thrift Store Manager assists the Thrift Store Manager in the everyday supervising, scheduling of staff and the general operation of the Thrift Store.This includes processing donations, sorting, pricing, tagging, selecting, and shelving, operating the Cash Register. This position can assist with bank deposits and reporting as required by The Salvation Army and will be responsible to keep the Thrift Store organized, neat and clean.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

  • Represent The Salvation Army in a manner that brings glory to God.
  • Assist in every way requested to carry out the spiritual and total mission of The Chambersburg Corps of The Salvation Army in terms of community needs and our ministry to the people of our community.
  • Prepare merchandise for sale, pricing, tagging items and clothes.
  • Assist the Manager with the presentation and display of merchandise, helping to create an attractive shopping environment, which includes neatly stacking, shelving, hanging. Or displaying clothing garments and other donated goods.
  • Work with the Manager to enforce pricing policies and give ideas and recommended strategies for sales promotions to maximize sales.
  • Ensure the Thrift Store is always organized, neat and clean, which includes sweeping, vacuuming, mopping floors, dusting shelves, washing windows, etc.
  • Assist in the recruitment of volunteers and handling appropriate paperwork to completion with the Operations Manager.
  • Assist in the training and development of staff and volunteers.
  • Keep record of daily sales and monthly totals.
  • Do daily deposits at bank.
  • Practice customer-friendly policies to ensure good customer relations.
  • Follow the Thrift Store Policy & Procedures Manuel.
  • Assist with any other projects or covering responsibilities withing other departments, as assigned by the Corps Officers or Thrift Store Manager.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills- both oral and in writing.
  • Must treat all people with compassion and respect.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and appropriate intervention skills within The Salvation Army required
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have prior experience in retail environment.
  • Must have prior experience in supervising others.
  • Ability to work cash register and teach others.
  • Basic HS-level math/accounting skills and familiarity working with cash receipts.
  • Must be able to keep information in a confidential and secure fashion.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work in an environment with multiple changing work priorities.
  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following: clearance and background checks prior to employment: Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check along with renewals every 5 years.
  • Must have an understanding of, appreciation for, and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.
