Purpose of Position: The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor in Technical Theatre within the Theatre & Dance program, beginning fall 2025. Responsibilities include teaching, technical direction, program and school service, and academic mentoring.

The School of the Arts offers a variety of degree programs in visual and performing arts. The Theatre & Dance Program offers B.F.A. degrees in Theatre Performance, Theatrical Design and Technology, with multiple tracks, and produces several mainstage productions annually, including musicals, plays, and dance concerts. Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Teach one to two courses per semester, including Introduction to Stagecraft; supervise production credit courses; oversee technical aspects of productions.
  2. Safely execute and assist in constructing all mainstage productions, including drafting, carpentry, welding, rigging, and special effects.
  3. Train students and volunteers in construction fundamentals and tool safety.
  4. Ensure safe working conditions aligned with industry standards, maintaining The Patricia A. Corbett Theatre & Robert and Rosemary Stauss Theatre.
  5. Collaborate with the Scene Shop Coordinator to develop schedules, budgets, purchase materials, manage load-in and strike, and reconcile expenses.
  6. Work with the creative and production teams, mentor students, participate in recruiting, and engage in program evaluations and curriculum development.

Qualifications:

Applicants should hold a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Design/Technology or related fields; a bachelor’s degree with significant experience may be considered. Preferred qualifications include successful teaching as a technical director, proficiency in drafting software, ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlines, proficiency with Microsoft 365, ability to lift over 50 pounds, and comfort with Genie lifts and ladder work.
