Oak Hill is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Assistant Teacher I (ATI) to provide hands-on classroom support to individuals with Developmental and other Disabilities. This role involves inspiring others, making a life-changing impact, and achieving professional growth and personal fulfillment. The Substitute Assistant Teacher at Oak Hill’s Hartford location is required to work an average of 15 hours a month. Responsibilities include supporting Special Education Teachers, preparing lessons, teaching students, assisting with behavior management, tracking student behavior, and setting up classroom materials. Applicants with no experience interested in education or direct care, or those seeking a career change, are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• At least age 18
• Valid driver’s license
• A Public Service license with a V endorsement is required during initial employment, facilitated through Oak Hill. The V endorsement is necessary for operating transportation vehicles for students, including those with disabilities. Applicants with a public passenger endorsement must have an acceptable driving record.

This is a union position with pay ranging from $18.50 to $19.40 per hour, depending on shift.

Responsibilities

• Collecting, recording, and charting data to meet program and regulatory standards.
• Maintaining participants’ cleanliness, comfort, and well-being; supporting self-help and daily living skills.
• Preparing materials for activities and projects.
• Promoting self-administration of medications, administering medication, documenting, and observing behavioral or health changes.
• Applying Emergency First Aid and CPR procedures when needed.
• Maintaining confidentiality and complying with policies regarding participant information.
