Job description

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is looking for enthusiastic, positive youth development professionals to serve as Assistant Teachers in our in-person Power Scholars Academy Summer Program at Dumbarton Elementary School. This part‑time position starts in June and ends in mid‑July. Starts at $16 per hour and has the opportunity to be up to 40 hours per week.

DUTIES of an Assistant Teacher
  • Work closely with certified teachers to implement enrichment programs for elementary school students.
  • Support the development of relevant lessons.
  • Ensure the academic and social development of scholars.
  • Work with teachers to identify scholar needs and create instructional plans.
  • Monitor scholars' progress and make recommendations for adjustments.
  • Create a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Supervise scholars in in‑person day‑to‑day activities as well as special functions such as field trips.
QUALIFICATIONS of an Assistant Teacher
  • Academic skills, including proficiency in elementary/middle school math and literacy.
  • Related college‑level coursework, along with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational and technological skills.
  • Strong relationship‑building, communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and service to diverse populations.
