Base pay range

$11.00/hr - $15.00/hr

Summary

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with additional hours for staffing needs, training, or staff meetings as assigned by the director.

Scope of position: The Assistant Teacher supports a cohesive teaching team, implements the curriculum, and manages daily classroom activities in the absence of the Lead Teacher. Responsibilities include administrative duties, monitoring children's progress, and maintaining records. The role requires understanding children's development to ensure a safe, engaging, and stimulating environment aligned with the school's philosophy and educational objectives.

Duties
  • Maintain a positive attitude daily
  • Support the mission and goals of Westminster Preschool
  • Build strong relationships with children and families
  • Ensure adult supervision and adhere to child/staff ratios
  • Attend all required training and events
  • Demonstrate faith in action and love for children
  • Uphold Biblical values and principles
Classroom environment
  • Keep the classroom clean and organized
  • Assist in maintaining learning centers
  • Follow daily schedule with appropriate transitions
  • Engage actively with children during activities
  • Step in for the lead teacher when needed
  • Implement activities as directed
  • Share housekeeping responsibilities and complete cleaning checklists
Curriculum
  • Assist in implementing curriculum and lesson plans
  • Participate in mealtimes, encouraging healthy eating and positive interactions
Safety
  • Meet health and safety standards per licensing rules
  • Follow Safe Sleep guidelines
  • Practice proper handwashing and sanitation procedures
Communication
  • Engage with children at their eye level
  • Resolve conflicts positively
  • Communicate regularly with families via ProCare
  • Coordinate with colleagues and staff regarding classroom needs
Requirements
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Interest in or working towards a CDA or similar credential
  • Ability to learn staff communication software
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
Additional Requirements
  • CPR/First Aid/Universal Precautions (annual recertification)
  • Background checks and drug screening
  • TB testing and up-to-date physical
  • Mandatory trainings (Safe Sleep, Child Safety, etc.)
  • 20 hours of in-service training annually
  • Participation in staff meetings and trainings
  • Ability to care independently for children within staffing ratios
  • Familiarity with licensing and quality standards
Physical Requirements
  • Lift children weighing at least 40 pounds
  • Able to bend, stoop, reach, sit, and rise without assistance
