POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for putting into operation a quality program within the classroom and for maintaining all licensing and accreditation standards in accordance with Child Care Development Fund Plan, Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) Policy & Procedures and Family Handbook, ECDC Emergency Preparedness Plan, ECDC Transition Plan, Oklahoma Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing Regulations, Quality Rating & Improvement System Requirements, and the Comanche Nation Human Resources Policies & Procedures. He/She will maintain a positive learning environment beneficial to the well-being of young children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain client, Child Care program and Comanche Nation policies regarding confidentiality.
  • Provide appropriate classroom management and adhere to program discipline policy.
  • Plans, directs, and participates in activities to encourage social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children.
  • Create and implement lesson plans and submit to the Quality, Curriculum & Empowerment Director using the Early Learning Guidelines.
  • Plan activities in accordance with curriculum objectives that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Creating and implementing individualizations for children with special needs and accommodations.
  • Plan for, manage, and provide guidance for lead teachers, assistant teachers, part-time teachers, and Summer Youth employees.
  • Maintain your classroom in a clean and organized manner.
  • Ensure that your class has a safe and healthy environment.
  • Arrange the classroom as needed to meet the needs to the children and to create a learning environment for children.
  • Maintain Staff to Child ratios at all times, ensuring that your class is adequately supervised at all times.
  • Maintain daily meal counts with the Cook and Nutrition Manager.
  • Coordinate and Plan Field Trips to include making the permission slip, completing off-site activities supervision plan, transportation logs, and notifying Site-Director and families at least 2 weeks in advance of planned trips.
  • Report all injuries/accidents to Director or next in charge and make sure documentation is done for center and parent/guardian.
  • Maintain anecdotal records of children’s developmental progress and/or delays and plan to meet with families twice a year for Family Conferences.
  • Document developmental progress and discuss developmental delays and other concerns with families as soon as possible.
  • Ensure Daily Communication with families, your fellow staff members, and the Site-Director.
  • Communicate with parents/families via ProCare, Facebook Group, in-person, phone, and email. Maintain current contact information, in case of emergencies and/or closings.
  • Enroll and complete a minimum of 30 hours of approved child care training annually.
  • Attend in Service Training and Staff Meetings.
  • Committed to integrating the Comanche Language and Culture into daily ongoing activities.
  • Complete Daily and Weekly Cleaning Duties.
  • Report any suspected child abuse to proper authorities
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor, site director, program director, and/or Tribal Administrator

REPORTS TO:Will Report to the ECDC Site Director and may supervise others when needed following the chain of command.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to cater to and accommodate children’s daily needs and physical and emotional demands.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Being able to do required cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing of all designated areas.
  • Moving and adjusting furnishings, equipment and learning materials for Room Arrangements as needed.
  • Loading and Unloading supplies/equipment & groceries.
  • Being physically mobile (getting up and down from floor and chair, moving to get on children’s level).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:The childcare center has multiple classrooms, a playground, dining room and kitchen, and transports children to head start, preschool, public school and field trips.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be willing to submit to and pass a Federal Background Investigation, employment will be contingent upon successful completion.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License
  • Must be able to submit and pass all Drug Testing.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and be employed full time.
  • Meet and maintain all licensing and accreditation standards in accordance with Child Care Development Fund Plan, Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) Policy & Procedures and Family Handbook, ECDC Emergency Preparedness Plan, ECDC Transition Plan, Oklahoma Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing Regulations, Quality Rating & Improvement System Requirements, and the Comanche Nation Human Resources Policies & Procedures.
  • Have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for offences relating to children or violent offenses.
  • Must be able to lift children assigned to your care and maintain classroom cleanliness.
  • The Assistant Teacher MUST MEET and MAINTAIN the Professional Development Ladder by meeting one of the following 2 options:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or a licensing approved equivalent OR
  • Completed 10th Grade and are in the process of obtaining a GED for a period not to exceed 36 months from employment.
