Job summary

University Settlement at 184 Eldridge Street, New York, NY 10002, seeks a full-time Teacher Assistant to support daily classroom activities and lesson planning under the supervision of the Lead Teacher. Work hours are 10:00am–6:00pm, Monday to Friday, for 35 hours weekly, with a salary range of $18.00–$18.40 per hour.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or HSE, CDA or Teacher Assistant Certificate (or willingness to obtain within 2 years), experience with children, and bilingual ability

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or HSE required; CDA or Teacher Assistant Certificate preferred or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire date
• Experience working with children
• Bilingual in Spanish or language that best meets needs of the center

Responsibilities

• Under the guidance of the Teacher, plan, and complete assignments in support of daily classroom program and activities
• Assist Lead Teacher in writing the daily and weekly lesson plans
• Ensure a proper level of availability and maintain classroom equipment and supplies
• Participate in recruiting parent volunteers and provide support to volunteers working in the classroom
• Provide assistance in writing required reports and completing various forms
• Attend home visits at least twice per year for each family
• Assist with ordering supplies and materials
• Attend and participate in staff and parent meetings and in training and development sessions
• Perform other related duties as required by supervisor
