Job summary

University Settlement Society Of New York on Eldridge Street seeks a Per Diem classroom assistant to support lead teachers in delivering sessions and maintaining a safe, engaging learning environment for toddlers and preschoolers in Lower Manhattan.

The role requires a high school diploma or HSE, with CDA or associate degree preferred, and bilingual abilities (English/Chinese or English/Spanish). Shift options 8:00am-4:00pm and 10:00am-6:00pm, up to 35 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or HSE required.
• CDA or associate degree in early childhood preferred.
• Bi-lingual English/Chinese or English/Spanish strongly preferred; language will change based on program needs.
• Two to three years' experience working with toddlers and preschoolers in a classroom setting.
• Must have good organization, communication and writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Support lead teachers and assistant teachers to lead classroom sessions
• Support classroom staff on classroom routines, activities, curriculum and transitions to ensure the health and safety of children
• Create a positive and engaging learning environment appropriate to their developmental needs and interests
• Ensure the safety of all children by actively supervising the children by both sight and sound .
• Communicate effectively with classroom staff and direct supervisor on all matters related to the children
• Other duties within the scope of the position as requested by supervisor to fulfill job responsibilities
