Job description

Shenandoah University’s Child Care Center is accepting applications for an Assistant Teacher- Infant Room. This is a full-time benefited position located in Winchester, Virginia.

Purpose/Essential Job Function:

Teacher Assistant supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Teacher Assistant observes and documents children's interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Teacher Assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a safe, positive, clean, and nurturing environment for infants, young children, and their parents. Meet basic and individual needs of all children in care.
  2. Follow the daily routine of each child. Document all aspects of the child's day. Implement weekly lesson plans.
  3. Feed, diaper and interact with all children. Take children outside daily.
  4. Communicate with parents about their child's day. Clean and sanitize toys, cribs and chairs.
  5. Stock and maintain diapers, wipes and ointment daily.
  6. Learn and implement licensing regulations.
