Job summary

The Johnson County Park and Recreation District (JCPRD) invites applications for a program assistant at Gardner elementary schools, morning and/or afternoon shifts, to support safe, engaging activities for children.

You will interact with children during games and activities, help lead groups, and ensure adherence to JCPRD and KDHE guidelines while keeping the program clean and organized. Strong communication and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Some experience with children.
• Pass KBI background check.
• Preferred: experience working with children 5–12 years.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety of the children in the program at all times.
• Direct interaction with the children in games, activities, and free play.
• Ensures that both JCPRD and KDHE guidelines are followed.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized program.
• Effectively communicate with parents, children, supervisors, and co-workers.
• Must Exhibit Initiative by demonstrating leadership without being prompted.
• Display professionalism always.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Attend all required in-service trainings and meetings.
• Additional duties as assigned by the Program Director or Assistant Program Director

Job Description

• Responsible for direct interaction with the children in games, activities, and free play.


• Ensures that both JCPRD and KDHE guidelines are followed.


• Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized program.


• Effectively communicate with parents, children, supervisors, and co-workers.

• Attend all required in-service trainings and meetings.


• Additional duties as assigned by the Program Director or Assistant Program Director


• Salary: $12.00 per hour.


• Locations are at various elementary schools in the Gardner School District.


• Gardner: Monday - Friday, 7:00 -8:30 a.m. and/or 3:00-6:00 p.m.

Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

Job Requirements

JCPRD requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department.
