Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is hiring an Assistant Teacher in Reston, VA to support planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for young children. You will help create a safe, nurturing environment that fosters social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

The role requires a minimum age of 20, a HS diploma or GED, CPR/First Aid, and background checks. Teaching experience and CDA-related credentials are valued, with CDA training within 18 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 20 years old
• High School Diploma or GED
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• Documentation of physical exam and TB test
• Ability to pass background checks and meet licensing requirements
• Strong communication skills and a positive, creative attitude
• 15 credit hours (per jurisdictional guideline) or 90-hour certificate or CDA
• Must obtain CDA within 18 months of employment
• Must have one year teaching experience in a licensed center

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing lesson plans that meet the needs and interests of children
• Maintain a safe environment and respond appropriately to emergencies
• Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and parent-child events
• Keep classrooms neat, clean, and organized; support children with cleanup routines
• Build positive relationships with families, coworkers, and program participants
• Participate in field trips, special events, and enrichment activities
• Engage children during story time, outdoor play, arts and crafts, and group activities
