Job summary

Spectrum 360 A NJ Non Profit Corp. is seeking an Abbott Teacher's Assistant to ensure age-appropriate activities for children. The role requires collaborative teamwork with teachers and families to maintain an engaging classroom environment.

The ideal candidate will have a state-awarded Paraprofessional Certificate or an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, along with First Aid and CPR certification. Qualifications

  • Experience teaching preschool children, preferably in Head Start classrooms.

Overview

Under the administrative direction of the Education & Early Childhood Services Manager and the Classroom Teacher and directly supervised by the ECE Coordinator/Site Supervisor the Abbott Teacher's Assistant/Floater ensures age and developmentally appropriate activities for all children.

Schedule

08:30AM - 03:30PM; Up to (2) 8:00AM arrivals per month for staff meetings and/or trainings and/or up to (2) 4:00PM departures per month for staff meetings and/or trainings.

Hourly Rate

$21.51 per hour

Temporary Hires are eligible for Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance effective the first of the month after hire date.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Performance Indicators
  • Assist the Teacher in planning and implementing a comprehensive program including CHSofNJ HS curriculum, and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Work in a team setting with all staff to determine individual needs of the children.
  • Assist the Teacher with set up and maintenance of an appropriate classroom environment, including organization of space and material storage.
  • Help supervise field trips and recreational activities.
  • Assist the Teacher in planning and participate in classroom activities with children.
  • Recommend ways of utilizing parent volunteers in the classroom and in other program activities.
  • Greet parents and children pleasantly and appropriately, ensuring a smooth transition into the classroom, a positive home‑classroom connection and a family partnership.
  • Provide activities parents can do at home with their children to support the curriculum and the child's learning. Maintain ongoing professional and appropriate communication with parents. Encourage parents to become involved in workshops, training and other Head Start activities.
  • Assist the Teacher in demonstrating to parents effective ways to reinforce the children's needs in the home.
  • Maintain accurate child attendance records, USDA food records/reports, in‑kind reports and other record keeping and reports as required. Keep all assigned records regarding classroom operations/children current and updated.
Qualifications

Educational Requirements: A state‑awarded certificate (i.e. Paraprofessional Certificate), or an associate's degree (60 college credits) – Early Childhood Education preferred.

First Aid and CPR Certification required.

Experience Requirements: Experience teaching pre‑school children, preferably in Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms; minimum of three years' experience working with preschool aged children and families.
