Job summary

Volunteers of America Western Washington is seeking an Assistant Teacher for Trailside ECEAP in Everett, WA. The role supports the lead teacher by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities to meet ECEAP standards and children's needs.

This full-time position requires the ability to supervise groups of children, facilitate small activities, document attendance and meals, and participate in family events.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education.
  • Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead teacher with age-appropriate activities and safety.
  • Supervise groups of children at all times when >10 present.
  • Record attendance, meals, and parent contacts; assist with assessments.
  • Attend home visits and family events; participate in meetings and trainings.
  • Translate information for children, parents, and staff when needed.

General Function

The Assistant Teacher is directly responsible for assisting the lead teacher. Duties include planning and implementing age and developmentally appropriate activities in the ECEAP classroom to ensure all ECEAP performance standards and the individual needs and interests of the children are met. The goal is that children leave the volunteers of America ECEAP program ready and prepared for kindergarten. The Assistant Teacher must be present at all times whenever more than ten children are in attendance to ensure a safe learning environment and to meet ECEAP performance standards. The Assistant Teacher may assist in the ECEAP kitchen and on the bus as needed or directed. The Assistant Teacher works during the academic school year.

Principal Activities
  • Supervises and interacts with children to extend their learning.
  • Facilitates small group activities.
  • Models appropriate and professional practice aligned with ECEAP performance standards.
  • Assists with record keeping related to attendance, meal counts, parent contact hours, accidents, illnesses, and emergency drills.
  • Records child observations and assists with child assessments as needed.
  • Participates in home visits and parent‑teacher conferences when appropriate.
  • Plans, implements, and attends parent/family events, activities and meetings.
  • Actively participates in all site‑based, county, and agency meetings and in‑service trainings.
  • Performs classroom and program housekeeping tasks.
  • Translates written and verbal information to children, parents and staff when applicable.
  • Enriches the cultural relevance of the indoor and outdoor learning environments.
  • Performs other tasks as directed.
Qualifications

All persons serving in the role of ECEAP Assistant Teacher must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education.
  • Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.

All employees are required to obtain the following within 90 days of employment:

  • Current infant, child and adult first aid/CPR certification
  • HIV/AIDS and Blood‑Borne Pathogens training
  • Washington State Patrol background check
  • HepatitisB vaccination
  • TB test
  • Food handler’s card
