Job summary

Volunteers of America Western Washington is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the ECEAP program. You will assist the lead teacher, plan age-appropriate activities, and ensure safety and development aligned with ECEAP standards.

Requirements include 12 college quarter credits in ECE, a current CDA credential, and first aid/CPR certification. You will work full-time during the academic year, with benefits and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Equivalents of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education are required.
  • CDA credential must be current and recognized by the relevant board.
  • First aid/CPR certification for infant, child and adult is required within 90 days.
  • Background check through Washington State Patrol is mandatory.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination is required to comply with health policies.
  • TB test is required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and interacts with children to extend learning.
  • Facilitates small group activities and records observations.
  • Assists with attendance, meal counts, and parent contact hours.
  • Participates in home visits and parent-teacher conferences when appropriate.
  • Translates information to children, parents and staff as applicable.

Duties include planning and implementing age and developmentally appropriate activities in the ECEAP classroom to ensure all ECEAP performance standards and the individual needs and interests of the children are met. The goal is that children leave the Volunteers of America ECEAP program ready and prepared for kindergarten. The Assistant Teacher must be present at all times whenever more than ten children are in attendance to ensure a safe learning environment and to meet ECEAP performance standards. The Assistant Teacher may assist in the ECEAP kitchen and on the bus as needed or directed. The Assistant Teacher works during the academic school year.Principal Activities:Supervises and interacts with children to extend their learning.Facilitates small group activities.Models appropriate and professional practice aligned with ECEAP performance standards.Assists with record keeping related to attendance, meal counts, parent contact hours, accidents, illnesses, and emergency drills.Records child observations and assists with child assessments as needed.Participates in home visits and parent-teacher conferences when appropriate.Plans, implements, and attends parent/family events, activities and meetings.Actively participates in all site-based, county, and agency meetings and in-service trainings.Performs classroom and program housekeeping tasks.Translates written and verbal information to children, parents and staff when applicable.Enriches the cultural relevance of the indoor and outdoor learning environments.Performs other tasks as directed.#voaww1Qualifications:All persons serving in the role of ECEAP Assistant Teacher must meet one of the following qualifications:Equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education.Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.All employees are required to obtain the following within 90 days of employment:Current infant, child and adult first aid/CPR certificationHIV/AIDS and Blood-Borne Pathogens trainingWashington State Patrol background checkHepatitis B vaccinationTB testFood handler’s cardEqual Employment Opportunity Statement:We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and all employment-related decisions are made without consideration of individuals’ race, sex, age, national origin, disability status or any other protected characteristic.
