Job Description

The Assistant Child Care Teacher will work with a small group of children under the coaching and supervision of a professional staff to ensure the care, safety, and well-being of the children assigned. She/he will use the YMCA philosophy and the four core values (caring, honesty, respect, responsibility) to deliver a high-quality program where every child can reach their full potential.

Qualifications

The candidate must be at least 18 years old, with current CPR and First Aid certifications. Knowledge of child development, age-appropriateness, and the ability to build harmonious relationships with children, staff, parents, and the public are essential.

Essential Functions

• Supervise children during classroom, outdoor, and off-site activities.
• Assist with nap time duties, including setting up and settling children.
• Identify child abuse and understand reporting responsibilities.
• Participate in class outings and maintain equipment and materials.
• Support classroom organization and substitute for the teacher if needed.
• Prepare materials, handle daily paperwork, and assist with bathroom routines.
• Contribute to curriculum planning and implement age-appropriate activities following NAEYC guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively, and document incidents and parent interactions.
