Job summary

The Goddard School in Chester, VA is seeking a motivated Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in creating engaging learning experiences for young children. You'll help implement lesson plans, maintain a safe, welcoming classroom, and foster a love of learning through hands-on activities.

Collaborating with families, following health and licensing guidelines, and contributing to a nurturing, collaborative team are key parts of the role. A high school diploma is required, with pref.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's in Early Childhood Education preferred
• Shows empathy and compassion for young children
• Works productively without supervision
• Basic understanding of child development
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. in connection with the handling of children
• Must pass required state background checks and meet state minimum education, experience and credential requirements

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans
• Support children's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development through active engagement and positive interactions
• Prepare classroom materials and ensure a safe, clean and inviting learning environment
• Supervise and provide individualized support to children and foster a sense of belonging
• Assist in communicating with families about their child's progress and daily activities
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines and licensing regulations to ensure a secure environment
• Support daily care routines and tasks to promote a nurturing learning environment
