Job summary

The Goddard School in Springfield, IL is seeking a motivated and caring Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in delivering engaging, age-appropriate activities and ensuring a safe, welcoming classroom.

You will help implement lesson plans, foster social, emotional, cognitive and physical development, prepare materials, supervise children, and communicate with families about daily activities and progress.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• Previous experience in licensed childcare or preschool settings.
• Empathy and compassion for young children.
• Able to work productively without supervision.
• Understanding of child development.
• Lift up to 50 lbs as part of handling children.
• Pass state background checks and meet licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans.

• Prepare classroom materials and maintain a safe, clean, inviting learning environment.

Assistant Teacher Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans

• Prepare classroom materials and ensure a safe, clean and inviting learning environment
• Supervise and provide individualized support to children and foster a sense of belonging
• Assist in communicating with families about their child’s progress and daily activities
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines and licensing regulations to ensure a secure environment
• Support daily care routines and tasks to promote a nurturing learning environment

Qualifications:

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's in Early Childhood Education preferred
• Previous experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or preschool setting
