Job Summary
The Assistant Systems Manager will join the Operations group as a Security Technician responsible for security initiatives in the Desktop, Server, Applications, and Network areas of the Lehigh County Information Technology Infrastructure. This position should be familiar with the administration and maintenance of an enterprise Server environment, virtual Server environment, networking, firewalls, end‑user security platforms, and other network and security tools. The Assistant Systems Manager for Security will report to the Security Information Officer.
Lehigh County serves a 2,500 member‑user community with multiple sites throughout the county. Remote sites are connected via VPN using either an internet provider or direct fiber links.
Responsibilities
- Monitor security alerts, logs, and events from security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), antivirus software, and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms.
- Investigate and respond to security incidents, vulnerabilities, and suspicious activities.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security policies, procedures, and standards.
- Conduct routine vulnerability scans and support remediation efforts.
- Maintain user access controls, permissions, and authentication systems.
- Support security awareness training initiatives and educate employees on cybersecurity best practices.
- Assist with risk assessments, audits, and compliance activities.
- Install, configure, and maintain security software and hardware solutions.
- Document security incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure systems are securely configured and maintained.
- Perform regular backups and verify data recovery processes as needed.
- Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of diverse computer and business experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Proficient knowledge of switching and routing protocols and network tools to maintain and upgrade the network infrastructure and provide edge security.
- Excellent verbal/written communication and organizational skills, with a strong focus on customer service.
Skills Required
- B.S. in Computer Science with security‑focused credentials and experience.
- Experience with computer forensic tools and techniques.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Domain environments, including Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows clients and backup software.
- Understanding of virtual servers, storage area networking, system fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and security concepts.
- Knowledge of networking concepts related to Active Directory such as TCP/IP, NetBIOS, RPC, routing, VLANs, WINS, DNS, DHCP, and Ethernet.
- Strong technical writing and communication/presentation skills.
- Strong organization, planning, and people skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks efficiently and meet objectives.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical ability.
- Certifications in Network Management, Microsoft Exchange Server, and VMware are desirable.
- Experience with firewalls, SIEM tools, and storage area networks is a plus.
- Experience with desktop management and endpoint detection and response tools is a plus.
Location & Salary
This is an onsite position located in downtown Allentown.
Salary: $34.43 per hour.
