Overview

Assistant Swim Coach

The Assistant Swim Coach will work directly with the Swim Coach to assist in instruction and coaching of the swim team, adhering to the standards of the YMCA of San Diego County and/or USA Swimming.

Schedule

Must be available Mon-Fri from 5pm-7pm and on weekends for swim meets

Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing the swim team area for workouts
  • Assist with stretching, warm-up, and cool-down activities
  • Help maintain safety and discipline during workouts and meets
  • Respond to the individual needs of participants
  • Provide demonstrations, explanations, practice, and skill correction during workouts
  • Communicate effectively with athletes and parents, offering encouragement
  • Model the values and mission of the YMCA at all times
  • Attend staff and aquatics training sessions
  • Maintain visual and auditory awareness to respond to emergencies swiftly
  • Observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 16 years
  • Preferred: 1 year coaching experience
  • Two years of competitive swimming experience
  • Current CPR PRO/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification from one of the following organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute
  • Current First Aid certification from one of the above organizations
  • Must have one of the following certifications: Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content, Safety Training in Water Session, or equivalent, along with valid Lifeguard certification
  • Principles of Competitive Swimming & Diving certification within 30 days
  • Desirable certifications include YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard, YMCA or WSI Swim Lesson, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSL)

YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history in accordance with the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. Pay Range

USD $17.25 - USD $20.41 per hour
