The Vacancy

Here at Wates, we have an opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our property services team within the Specialist division, carrying out Maintenance and Refurbishment works to commercial properties.

Your time will be split between 2 offices during the week: 2/3 days in our City of London office and the remainder in our Enfield office.

The main aim of this role is to assist the Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager in developing and implementing all pre- and post-contract strategies, commercial functions, and contract reporting.

Key Accountabilities Will Include
  • Visiting sites on an ad-hoc basis to survey potential works, alongside Supervisors or the Commercial Lead.
  • Ensuring the timely receipt of quotations for materials, equipment, and Sub-contract works; undertaking commercial assessment of quotes received; and ensuring the timely placement of orders.
  • Working closely with the operations team to monitor on-site progress and control costs.
  • Attending client meetings alongside the Quantity Surveyor.
  • Collaborating with the Quantity Surveyor to procure supply chain services.
  • Collating, updating, and filing compliance information, and managing trackers to monitor deadlines.
  • Reviewing subcontractor payment applications monthly and inputting them into the Coins system.
  • Developing an understanding of internal/external commercial strategies regarding minor subcontract packages and on-site prelims.
  • Understanding Cost and Value Reconciliation (CVR) to support the production of monthly CVR reports.

The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, good numeracy skills, high computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.), and the ability to build relationships with Wates’ delivery team, clients, and subcontractors. Basic commercial skills are required as a minimum; further training, mentoring, and education (HNC/HND/Degree) will support your development.
