Assistant, Supervisor – Packaging Department, North Brunswick, NJ (Second Shift: 3:30 pm – 12:00 am)
Role Overview
The Assistant Supervisor supports planning, coordination, and management of all packaging department activities, ensuring safety, sanitation, GMP compliance, problem‑solving, and employee relations.
Areas of Responsibility
- Distribute workload to meet timelines and adjust priorities as needed.
- Coordinate equipment operation, preventive maintenance, repairs, and evaluation of new equipment.
- Supervise packaging production employees, including mechanical support staff.
- Oversee daily operation of filling and packaging environment.
- Coordinate activities of mechanics and warehouse handlers to keep production lines running efficiently.
- Communicate all packaging activities with the Lead QA inspector so that proper QA support is available.
- Create and issue required packaging paperwork to line leaders and audit daily for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare for the new shift by reviewing log entries, line status, and issues.
- Conduct routine meetings with employee groups to provide guidance and review problems, new procedures, and customer issues.
- Work closely with Quality and Planning departments to execute the production plan.
- Identify and solve production problems by reviewing concerns, developing solutions, testing them, and preparing recommendations for management.
- Maintain a teamwork‑fostering work environment that supports continuous improvement.
- Assist the Supervisor in preparing production reports, variance explanations, and managing inventory and production supplies.
Quality
- Participate in investigations for deviations involving batch records.
- Maintain proper gowning and hygiene to ensure product integrity per cGMPs and company policies.
- Follow batch records, SOPs, and cGMP guidelines to meet product specifications and tolerances.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, GMPs, ethical business practice, and SOPs.
- Maintain documentation such as operation logs and batch records, signed and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Assist the Supervisor in completing necessary activity reports for management.
- Ensure products are staged for counting and inspection, and stored properly to conserve space and comply with safety procedures.
People

- Assume responsibility for the efficient, timely, and accurate completion of warehouse functions.
- Build knowledge of manufacturing operations to provide support in other areas as needed.
- Evaluate employee performance and create corrective action plans when appropriate.
- Assist with personnel decisions, including hiring, terminations, attendance management, wage decisions, transfers, and promotions.
- Explain USPL Handbook policies so employees can understand each policy and its purpose.
- Apply company policies fairly and consistently across departments, building trust and transparency.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses of associates to assign tasks appropriately.
- Work extended hours and occasional weekend overtime as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Responsibilities Including Safety
- Ensure each employee works safely, creating an injury‑free and incident‑free workplace.
- Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems.
- Maintain warehouse equipment, providing preventive maintenance and communicating repairs to the Director of Facilities.
- Lead warehouse safety programs to provide a safe and clean workplace within OSHA, local, and state regulations.
- Ensure all associates are trained and following SOPs.
Requirements
Education & Qualification
- BA degree and/or 2+ years line leader experience.
- Preferred: Minimum of one year in nutritionals, supplements, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Certifications, Licenses, Credentials
Skills & Ability
- Teamwork and assistance for others.
- Bi‑lingual in Spanish or Hindi is a plus.
- Ability to follow written instructions precisely and perform basic math calculations.
- Knowledge of cGMPs, OSHA standards, and related regulations.
- Mechanically inclined to understand equipment inner workings.
- Basic reading and writing in English for industry instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 lb; occasionally up to 75 lb.
- Stand and walk on production floor for at least 6 hours per shift.
- Use hands to operate controls, lift to waist or higher, bend, squat, and walk short distances.
- Occasionally work from a rolling ladder or step stool.
- Wear all PPE, including lab coat, face mask, booties, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, and respirators.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with moderate temperatures, dust, odors, noise, and fumes; exposure to chemicals and cleaning agents.
