Job summary

The Cumberland Valley School District seeks a highly qualified Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education to oversee all aspects of the secondary program (Grades 6-12). The successful candidate will lead by supporting building administrators, aligning district initiatives, and guiding continuous improvement in Student Services and Special Education.

Candidates should hold a Principal certification, a master's degree, and a Superintendent's Eligibility; a Doctorate is preferred.

Qualifications

Job description

The Cumberland Valley School District (CVSD), a leader in public education and one of the fastest growing school districts in Pennsylvania, seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. Primary responsibilities for this commissioned officer will be to oversee all aspects our secondary program (Grades 6-12). Cumberland Valley School District has two middle schools (Eagle View and Mountain View), a ninth-grade academy (CV9), and Cumberland Valley High School (grades 10-12).

The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience and success leading secondary schools and supporting building-level leadership teams in a complex educational organization. Preference will be given to candidates with successful secondary principal experience and demonstrated strength in organizational leadership, student services, personnel supervision, and systems management. Candidates must possess a Principal certification (K-12, elementary or secondary), a master's degree, and a Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility, though progress toward the Letter will be considered. A doctorate or work toward a doctorate degree is preferred.

Qualified applicants must maintain the professional knowledge base and interpersonal skills necessary to:

• Provide leadership, supervision, and support to secondary building administrators in fostering safe, positive, and high-performing school communities.
• Assist the Superintendent in the overall leadership and management of the secondary program (Grades 6-12), including operational planning, organizational leadership, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Supervise and evaluate administrators and departments assigned to the Assistant Superintendent, including oversight of Student Services and Special Education programming.
• Support principals in matters related to student discipline, student support, school climate, attendance, and parent/community concerns.
• Assist with recruiting, hiring, mentoring, supervising, and evaluating administrative and professional staff.
• Collaborate with building and district leadership teams to ensure alignment of district initiatives, student support systems, and organizational expectations.
• Assist in the development and administration of departmental and building budgets and support long-range planning related to enrollment growth, staffing, and programming needs.
• Utilize data and organizational metrics to support informed decision-making, monitor program effectiveness, and guide continuous improvement efforts.
• Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, Board policies, and administrative procedures.
• Represent the District in meetings, presentations, committees, and collaborative partnerships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
