Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join our field operations team. You will support the construction superintendent and project management in daily field activities across commercial, clean room, pharma, healthcare, and semiconductor projects.

You will focus on scheduling, coordination, and execution, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery while contributing to a culture of safety and professional growth within challenging environments.

Qualifications

• 7–10+ years of construction project management or related roles on high-end clean room, pharma, and semiconductor projects.
• Experience reading blueprints and technical drawings with a strong safety focus.
• Hands-on with change orders, RFIs, submittals, and quantity take-offs.
• Experience with managing projects from $500K to $20M, including $3–5M scope.
• Proficient with MS Project, Procore, and Sage.
• Knowledge of scheduling and coordination of field activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in on-site construction activities per plans, specs, and quality criteria.
• Support safety enforcement through site inspections and hazard-free practices.
• Coordinate daily subcontractors, suppliers, and field labor for smooth workflows.
• Monitor schedules with detailed planning to hit milestones.
• Support budgeting by tracking progress and variances.
• Conduct quality control checks and site inspections against standards.
• Serve as point of contact for project managers and clients.
• Assist with full implementation from takeover through delivery.
• Help process change orders, RFIs, submittals, and take-offs.
• Utilize MS Project, Procore, and Sage for scheduling and reporting.
• Assist with supervision of executive and field staff and toolbox talks.
• Coordinate work planning for multiple projects including ground-up and fit-outs.

Job Description

This role supports the construction superintendent and project management team in overseeing daily field operations for commercial, clean room, pharmaceutical, biopharma, healthcare, manufacturing, and semiconductor projects. The assistant superintendent helps ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards, with a strong emphasis on scheduling, coordination, and field execution. Responsibilities

• Assist in managing and supervising all on-site construction activities, ensuring work follows project plans, specifications, and quality criteria.
• Support enforcement of safety regulations and company policies by helping conduct regular site inspections and promoting a hazard-free work environment.
• Coordinate daily activities of subcontractors, suppliers, and field labor, helping to maintain efficient workflows and clear communication among all parties.
• Help monitor project schedules, with a strong emphasis on detailed planning and sequencing of work to keep activities on track and aligned with milestones.
• Support project budgeting efforts by tracking progress, identifying variances, and assisting with financial monitoring and settlement of projects.
• Participate in quality control checks and site inspections to verify that completed work meets industry standards and client expectations.
• Serve as a supporting point of contact for project managers and clients, helping maintain regular communication and addressing field-related questions or concerns.
• Assist with the full implementation process from takeover of work preparation through project completion and delivery, ensuring continuity throughout all phases.
• Help manage and process change orders, requests for information (RFIs), submittals, and take-offs, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
• Use project management and construction software such as MS Project, Procore, and Sage to assist with scheduling, reporting, documentation, and cost tracking.
• Support supervision of the executive and field staff by helping ensure team members are properly informed and qualified to perform their work, including participation in toolbox or safety meetings.
• Assist with work planning and coordination for multiple projects, including ground-up construction, office fit-outs, renovations, and clean room projects.
• Help ensure that subcontract management processes run smoothly, including coordination of scopes, schedules, and performance in the field.
• Contribute to maintaining accurate records of site activities, progress reports, safety documentation, and project correspondence.
• Participate in problem-solving efforts by identifying issues in the field, proposing solutions, and helping implement corrective actions to keep projects on schedule.
• Support the project manager and superintendent in guiding projects from purchase order through final completion, focusing on consistent execution and client satisfaction.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in construction project management or field supervision, ideally supporting superintendent or project manager roles.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and safety protocols, with the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Experience working on high-end commercial projects, especially clean room, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, healthcare, manufacturing, and biopharma environments.
• 7–10+ years of experience in construction project management or related roles on high-end, clean room, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor projects.
• Demonstrated ability to manage or support projects ranging from approximately $500K to $20M, with particular experience in the $3–5M range.
• Hands‑on experience with change orders, RFIs, submittals, and quantity take-offs.
• Proficiency with project management and construction software, including MS Project, Procore, and Sage.
• Experience with project scheduling and a strong emphasis on planning and coordinating field activities.
• Capability to oversee or support the full implementation process from work preparation through final delivery.
• Strong leadership and team coordination skills, with the ability to support and motivate field and subcontractor team
