Job summary

W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company is seeking an Assistant Superintendent (ASUPI) to oversee trade labor, review contract documents, and support project management on site in Elk Grove, CA. The role requires coordination with superintendents, PMs, and subcontractors to ensure safety, quality, and timely completion.

The ASUPI will develop and apply foundational construction knowledge to manage areas of responsibility and participate in meetings to coordinate work across trades.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree preferred in construction management, engineering, or related field.
• Knowledge of basic construction principles and practical application on site.
• Understanding of project cost control and expense monitoring principles.

Responsibilities

• Oversee labor in designated areas and assist Superintendent with manpower planning.
• Review contract documents, specifications, drawings and attend coordination meetings.
• Provide field support to ensure quality, safety, and schedule adherence on site.
• Assist in developing scopes of work for subcontractors and manage subcontractor coordination.
• Support in schedule development and reporting, and assist with change management as required.

The Assistant Superintendent (ASUPI) is responsible for performing tasks as assigned by the Superintendent. The ASUPI oversees trade labor in particular areas of the project as determined by management. Develops and applies foundational construction knowledge to begin to manage areas of responsibility.

Primary Duties:

• Accomplishing tasks assigned by the Superintendent and communicating their progress.
• Assisting Superintendent with planning manpower
• Reviewing and becoming familiar with project contract documents, specifications,
• and drawings
• Participating in meetings to coordinate work and manage labor concerns, taking minutes
• as required.
• Providing field support to construction superintendents and project managers to help
• ensure contract compliance, quality control and maintenance of the site.
• Assisting in developing scopes of work for each subcontractor
• Assisting with constructability reviews
• Attending preconstruction meetings with all subcontractors prior to beginning each
• phase of work
• Assisting with the completion of project close-out
• Assisting in coordinating punch list items and procedures
• Assisting in management of project permit process
• Assisting with planning weekly work activities for a trade crew
• Assisting with planning labor needs for a given task
• Supporting and participating in schedule development and updates
• Assisting with the change management system by soliciting, receiving, and
• reviewing quotations to aid management in IOCC and Change Order development.
• Review and distribute RFIs, submittals under supervision.
• Assisting in the development and maintenance of the site logistics plan for the project

Qualifications:

• An undergraduate University degree or higher (preferably in Construction
• Management, Engineering, or a closely related field) is preferred. Other relevant education, training or work experience may substitute for bachelor’s degree.
• Knowledge of basic construction and/or engineering principles.
• Knowledge of basic business principles is sufficient to project and monitor expenses.

Requirements:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical
• manuals, product/material installation instructions and engineering/architectural
• drawings.
