Job summary

Navigate Search seeks an Assistant Superintendent to join a Chicago construction team supporting a major 50-story, 1.1-million-square-foot high-rise in the Loop. This role bridges field crews, sub-trades, and the project management team to ensure quality, schedule adherence, and safety.

You will assist Lead Superintendent with on-site activities, look-ahead schedules, and coordination with owners, design teams, and trades. Growth into a Lead Superintendent role is possible.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction/engineering-related field or 3+ years of equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and identify constructability issues within complex blueprints, structural plans, and submittals.
  • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification is preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and time-management abilities. Must exhibit a desire to learn and step into a Lead Superintendent role in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Field Supervision: Manage a segment or specific area of a large project under the guidance of the Lead Superintendent. Assist in directing daily site activities of subcontractors, vendors, and laborers.
  • Schedule & Milestones: Support the preparation and maintenance of look-ahead schedules. Help forecast daily, weekly, and monthly targets to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Quality Control: Perform regular site walk-throughs to verify that workmanship and materials strictly comply with contract documents, approved drawings, and specifications. Document deficiencies and manage completion of punch lists.
  • Safety Enforcement: Facilitate and enforce company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and SWPPP documentation on-site. Participate in routine hazard assessments and risk mitigation.
  • Materials & Logistics: Monitor and track site deliveries, verify material quantities, and manage work orders or site logistics plans.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain complete, accurate working documents. Track trade manpower, log design changes, and submit clear daily production reports.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Attend subcontractor coordination meetings and assist with jurisdictional city inspections. Maintain collaborative relationships with field teams and local community partners.

About the Project

This Superintendent will join the team supporting a major 50-story, approximately 1.1-million-square-foot high-rise property in Chicago's Loop.

The project represents a significant opportunity to work on a high-profile urban asset in one of Chicago's most prominent redevelopment corridors, with a complex scope requiring strong coordination between field operations, design teams, ownership, consultants, and trade partners.

The Role

The Assistant Superintendent plays a vital role in supporting the Lead Site Superintendent in the execution, monitoring, and daily operations of large-scale commercial, high-rise, or residential construction projects. This role acts as a bridge between field crews, sub-trades, and the project management team to ensure projects align with company quality standards, remain on schedule, and adhere to strict safety protocols.
