GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults on hair care needs, and recommends products and services. This temporary role prepares talent for a stylist position, focusing on guest service, technical skills, and product knowledge. Mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist for the first 3 months, the role evolves to include servicing guests independently in months 4-6.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Stylist demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through:

Performance

• Providing exceptional guest service and supporting sales, loyalty, and shrink goals.
• Supporting mentor Stylist in achieving sales and productivity targets through recommendations, service execution, and retail sales.
• Performing hair services after initial training, including cuts, color, styling, treatments, and other services.
• Demonstrating products to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Supporting in-store events and staying informed on industry trends.
• Maintaining consistent attendance.

People

• Building guest relationships through consultations and recommendations.
• Serving all guests efficiently under mentorship.
• Collaborating with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
• Fostering professional relationships with peers and brand partners.
• Promoting the guest loyalty program and app.

Process

• Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Following sanitation and infection control protocols.
• Adhering to service protocols for a consistent guest experience.
• Using booking systems for appointments and follow-ups.
• Maintaining store cleanliness and organization.
• Attending training and adhering to dress code.
• Protecting assets and executing operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Cosmetology license

Skills: Knowledge of salon techniques, equipment, chemicals, product recommendations, communication, teamwork, and client relationship building.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Mobility, bending, reaching, standing, and lifting up to 10 lbs. during shifts.
