GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Assistant Stylist is responsible for engaging with guests, consulting with them on their hair care needs, and recommending products and services. The Assistant Stylist position is a temporary role aimed at preparing talent for a stylist position, focusing on delivering quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look. They support and are mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist for the first 3 months and focus on performance, people, and process. From months 4-6, they will begin servicing guests independently. A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and a willingness to learn technical skills are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Stylist champions Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, demonstrating them through:

Performance

• Delivering exceptional guest service and supporting store goals related to sales, guest loyalty, and shrinkage.
• Supporting mentor Stylist in meeting sales and productivity goals, including recommendations, service execution, and retail sales.
• Performing hair services including design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, and more after months 3.
• Driving sales through product demonstrations and supporting in-store events and promotions.
• Staying informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Maintaining regular attendance.

People

• Developing guest relationships through consultations and recommendations.
• Serving all guests promptly under mentorship.
• Collaborating with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
• Building professional relationships with peers and brand partners.
• Promoting the guest loyalty program.

Process

• Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Following sanitation and infection control procedures.
• Adhering to service protocols for a consistent guest experience.
• Using booking systems effectively.
• Communicating supply needs and maintaining store standards.
• Attending training and meetings for professional growth.
• Following dress code and loss prevention practices.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Cosmetology license required.

The pay range is $17.00/hour, with variations based on experience and location.
