Job summary

Giant Food is hiring Assistant Store Managers and experienced store leaders for our Delaware-area stores. You’ll oversee day-to-day operations, customer service, labor, training, and performance management to drive sales and service excellence in a busy, big-box grocery environment.

We Seek proven leaders with a track record in retail, strong scheduling, inventory, and P&L skills, plus the ability to develop teams, maintain safety standards, and deliver a welcoming customer experience.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in business concentration, such as Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain/Logistics, or others
  • Prior work as an Assistant Store Manager and/or Store Manager in a nationally or regionally recognized grocery company and/or big box retail company
  • Proficiency in scheduling, ordering, inventory, payroll, Profit & Loss (P&L) analysis, project management, and personnel management
  • Knowledge of employment law, interview techniques, and general retail hiring practices
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills, the ability to acquire and keep the confidence of associates, customers, and management alike
  • Experience managing an effective community relations program
  • Staffers must be willing to work required hours, travel and take assignment within the regional business areas (Washington/Virginia/Maryland/Delaware)

Responsibilities

  • Coaches, trains, and develops department managers and associates
  • Delegates effectively to Department Managers and holds teams accountable
  • Fosters engagement, morale, retention, and a positive work culture
  • Models and enforce high service standards
  • Resolves escalated customer issues with professionalism
  • Ensures a welcoming, clean, and customer-first environment
  • Supports daily store operations with consistency and accuracy
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, SOPs, and safety standards
  • Manages opening/closing procedures, audits, and store readiness
  • Drives revenue through merchandising, promotions, and service execution
  • Monitors KPIs, sales goals, and margin performance
  • Identifies growth opportunities and implements action plans
  • Supports in-stock position, ordering, and shrink control
  • Ensures planogram accuracy, product rotation, and presentation standards
  • Coordinates seasonal sets, pricing integrity, and visual execution
  • Supports Manager with budgets, scheduling, expense controls, and payroll allocation
  • Analyzes reports and trends to maximize profitability
  • Makes data-based decisions to achieve operational targets
  • Enforces OSHA, food safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Conducts store inspections, training, and corrective actions
  • Mitigates loss, theft, and liability risks
  • Communicates expectations clearly across all levels
  • Partners with corporate, vendors, and cross-functional teams
  • Conducts effective meetings, huddles, and performance discussions
  • Addresses issues quickly and confidently
  • Uses sound judgment and data to make operational decisions
  • Anticipates challenges and implements proactive solutions
  • Supports teams through new initiatives, technology, and policies
  • Stay flexible in high-volume, fast-paced environments
  • Encourages innovation and continuous improvement
  • Salary range is between $64,800.00 - $81,000.00

Giant is hiring Assistant Store Managers! We want proven, experienced store leaders with a passion for customer service and a knack for driving sales.

ASMs are responsible for day-to-day operation and development of their store, including customer service, training and development of all store associates, labor management, inventory control, asset protection, shrink, store conditions, and performance management.

Giant food has three ASM classifications, including Customer Service Manager (CSM); Non-Perishable Manager (NPM); and Perishable Manager (PM).
