Position Overview:

We are seeking an Assistant Store Manager for store 275 at 3900 Spenard Road in Anchorage to provide leadership and direction to a multimillion-dollar business unit, focusing on delivering an exceptional customer experience, training and developing Team Members, and establishing a strong sales culture with accountability for operational excellence and achievement of financial and regulatory standards.
Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
People Management Skills:
- Create a work culture that makes your store an inviting place to work
- Be a role model who coaches, mentors, and inspires team members
- Delegate tasks to team members and set priorities
- Communicate clearly to the team through effective huddles, meetings, and coaching sessions
- Participate in store recruitment and create succession plans
- Support and coach team members to improve performance gaps; conduct ongoing coaching
- Ensure team completes required training within set time frames
- Create and monitor efficient weekly store schedules for sales and support functions
Customer Offering:
- Deliver exemplary customer service
- Utilize the 5 Non-Negotiables: Greet, Engage, Build, Add-on, and Thank
- Assist Store Manager in resolving customer complaints
- Review customer surveys and manage responses
- Evaluate programs and promotions for effectiveness and recommend improvements
- Set an example of store excellence and maintain awareness of all store operations
- Use the heat map of customer flow to inform business needs
Work Schedule Requirements:
- Minimum of two Saturdays per month, February through November
- Every weekend in December
- Flexible scheduling in January for time off
- At least one mid-shift weekly (until 7:00 or 8:00 pm)
- At least three closing shifts per month (adjust based on store closing time)
- At least one opening shift per week
Financial Responsibilities:
- Plan and organize labor, inventory, and finances for success
- Meet or exceed financial targets in partnership with Area Manager
- Monitor Loss Prevention to protect assets
- Review financial documents for accuracy
- Adjust schedules to control labor costs
- Develop plans to address budget deficits
Day-to-Day Operations:
- Follow merchandising and pricing guidelines
- Maintain store cleanliness and address maintenance issues
- Implement merchandising programs and track results
- Manage communication channels
- Control inventory levels, ordering, and receiving
- Respond to customer complaints
- Attend OHS and LP meetings and training
- Share industry knowledge and develop relationships with stakeholders
- Set daily store tasks and review upcoming promotions
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to OHS, LP, TAP/Rserving, and other regulations
- Participate in health inspections and audits
- Maintain required training certifications
- Comply with AK ABC Board and government guidelines
- Follow all company policies, emphasizing social responsibility
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 21 years old
- At least 1 year retail experience
- At least 1 year supervisory/management experience (preferred)
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Tap or Rserving Certification
- First-Aid certification (asset but not required)
- Training in wine/beer/spirits (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Availability for varied schedules including evenings and weekends
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Comfort with climbing ladders
