Job summary

Qualifications

  • Effective communication with management, staff, customers and donors.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Store Manager in daily store operations including opening/closing and POS.
  • Cover Store Manager duties in their absence.
  • Monitor KPIs to drive sales and profitability per budgets.
  • Schedule staff and manage payroll records.
  • Assist with hiring, training and performance coaching.
  • Manage customer and donor satisfaction and community relations.
  • Back Room Processing (BRP) support and BRP goals.
  • Supervise program Beneficiaries when Work Therapy is in place.
  • Ensure security of cash, inventory, and property; maintain safety.
  • Ensure building security during off-hours; attend safety meetings.
  • May transfer to other stores as needed.
  • Complete tasks assigned by District Sales Manager and Command staff.

Overview

The Salvation Army (TSA) Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Salinas, CA seeks an Assistant Store Manager to support store operations in alignment with our mission to do the most good. Pay rate: $18.40.

Responsibilities
  • Takes an active role and partners with the Store Manager in the day-to-day operation of the store, including opening and closing procedures, point of sale operations, inventory management and rotation, ARC merchandising standards (CNO Standards) and donations.
  • Assumes responsibility for all day-to-day store operations (including personnel and cash handling duties) in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Assists Store Manager to monitor and analyze key performance indicators to drive store sales and increase profitability as projected by budget and goals set by Command Retail Directors and Command Administration.
  • In the absence of Store Manager, schedules store employees to ensure appropriate coverage in store and donation center; coordinates daily morning and shift change team meetings; reviews and maintains accurate employee payroll records including daily monitoring of time and attendance edits.
  • Assists Store Manager with hiring, training and directing the store team to ensure proficiency of processes while also responsible for the development and performance coaching of all store employees.
  • Communicates personnel issues and performance results with Store Manager; may issue disciplinary warnings, conference reports, employee evaluations, and key performance results as needed in coordination with HR and District Sales Manager.
  • Ensures high levels of customer and donor satisfaction through excellent service and maintains good community relations; develops strategies to improve service and the customer experience.
  • Back Room Processing (BRP) support to ensure Back Room Processors/Warehouse Associates meet daily processing goals.
  • Supervision and reporting of program Beneficiaries when Work Therapy Assignments are in place.
  • Protects and secures store currency, inventory, and property, including safe funds, deposits, merchandise, equipment, and building security.
  • Ensures building security during non-operating hours with alarm and alert protocol.
  • Maintains safety measures in line with ARC policy and regulations; reports safety issues and incidents; assists with weekly store meetings and safety meetings.
  • May transfer or be relocated to other stores based on business needs.
  • Completes tasks as assigned by the District Sales Manager, Command Retail Directors and Command Administration.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent REQUIRED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of retail management/supervisory experience (thrift store preferred).
  • Basic understanding of office applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license, pass MVR, show proof of insurance, and have access to a motor vehicle. REQUIRED
  • Must pass a background check, including Criminal History and Sex Offender Registry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, store employees, customers and donors.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets, clothing carts, merchandise carts, rolling clothing racks, fixtures, furniture dollies, platform trucks and carts, hand trucks and miscellaneous carts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks.

About Our Retail Team

Join the Salinas Retail Team at The Salvation Army and contribute to serving the local community through the Salinas Thrift Store, supporting the Adult Rehabilitation Program. This role promotes customer service, problem-solving and teamwork while supporting program participants.

Schedule

Stores operate 7 days per week. Schedules are determined by Management and employees must be flexible to ensure adequate store coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
