Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for proficiency in all areas of a retail operation. The role serves as the second in command to the Store Manager, providing leadership and direction to the store team, ensuring a positive customer shopping experience, and overseeing operational activities. The position also involves promoting a safe and productive work environment and training Team Members on policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
2. Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
3. Uphold and promote a safe and productive work environment by following policies and procedures.
4. Support selling initiatives by engaging with customers, thanking them, advising on products, and making their experience memorable.
5. Assist the Store Manager with store operations, including sales, profit, customer loyalty, and daily task delegation.
6. Support staffing, training, development, and counseling of Team Members.
7. Execute merchandising activities, perform opening/closing procedures, and manage deposits.
8. Assess store conditions, organize workflow, and manage merchandise recovery and pricing activities.
9. Resolve customer complaints and ensure a positive experience.
10. Adhere to loss prevention standards and respond to alarms.
11. Communicate job responsibilities and financial goals to Team Members.
12. Operate cash registers, supervise cash handling, and ensure policy compliance.
13. Ensure the safety and care of live animals, including maintaining tanks and sanitation.
14. Complete all documentation related to job duties.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Previous retail leadership experience is required; pet/live animal knowledge is strongly preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Ability to perform all Team Member responsibilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution abilities.

Working Conditions

• Primarily indoor work with moderate noise; outdoor lots are hard surfaces.
• Shifts generally range from 4 to over 8 hours, with a focus on safety and adherence to guidelines.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting, reaching, standing, kneeling, and climbing.
• Ability to move throughout the store and operate equipment safely.
• Ability to process information and merchandise accurately.
• Must have the stamina to move quickly and safely throughout the store.
