Overview

Assistant Store Manager - Famous Footwear role at Famous Footwear. As a full-time Assistant Store Manager, you are passionate about providing the best shoe store experience for the whole family through customer engagement. You act in the store leader role in the absence of the Store Manager and are a people leader who motivates a team to achieve sales targets and growth goals. You support an in-store culture where customers say, “I’ll take it” and are loyal to your store, our brands, and our company. You stay up to date on product presentation and trends and help educate the store team. Most importantly, you love shoes and help every person who enters your store feel the Famous Feeling.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Inspire the Customer Connection: foster a culture of caring and camaraderie focused on customer relationships, operational excellence, and flawless delivery of both. Infuse coaching moments for selling behaviors behind our Customer Connection.
• Champion Talent Discovery: seek out and network with exceptional external talent; collaborate with the Store Manager to interview and hire individuals passionate about creating top-notch customer experiences.
• Ace Retail Operations & Support Staffing Levels: manage retail operational fundamentals, including pricing, shipping processing, and inventory; support staffing levels as directed by the Store Manager considering availability, peak days, and seasonal needs.
• Leverage Insights to Deliver Results: take accountability for goals and their impact on location performance; drive sales and apply insights to continually improve results.
• Be a Culture Builder: support a diverse and inclusive team environment; maintain a positive mindset and lead by example to increase retention and performance.
• Be our Store Manager’s Right Hand: when the Store Manager is away, step into leadership, develop internal talent, ensure policy compliance, and monitor team strengths and opportunities in partnership with the Store Manager.

Preferred Qualifications & Education

• Has a High School Diploma/GED.
• Has at least 1 year of sales experience (retail preferred).
• Experience in interviewing, hiring, and training people.
• Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and communicate with store associates at all levels.
• Ability to train, coach, and develop associates to provide an engaging customer experience and execute operational tasks.
• Exercises independent judgment partnering with the Store Sales Manager as needed.
• Strong cognitive skills including problem solving, decision making, and basic financial analysis.
• Advanced working knowledge of general retail practices and procedures.
• Flexible schedule including holidays, nights, weekends, and extended hours.
• Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements And/or Environment

• Ability to regularly lift up to 40 lbs. and to use appropriate equipment and safety techniques.
• Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
• Ability to be mobile on the sales floor for extended periods.
• 1+ years of sales experience preferred, especially retail.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team, recruiting and training effectively.
• Flexibility to work a schedule that includes holidays, nights, weekends, and extended hours.
