The Assistant Store Manager is the second in command of the store, responsible for its successful operation and profitability. This includes training, directing, and monitoring all department staff.

Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Greet and serve customers according to company standards of World Class customer service.
- Provide professional leadership as a manager.
- Handle customer complaints appropriately and per company policy.
- Maintain an inviting and shoppable store environment.
- Ensure products customers want are in-stock.
- Handle special orders per company policy.
- Answer phones per standards and spend at least 75% of time assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to all departments.
- Train staff to deliver exemplary customer service and hold them accountable.
- Ensure staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registrations.
- Meet and/or exceed expectations in sales, sales per labor hour, average ticket, customer count, COGS for produce, and EBITDA.
- Order products from correct vendors to maintain margins and discounts.
- Maintain in-stock conditions and monitor product mix, including analyzing departments, managing slow movers, and introducing new products.
- Ensure perishables are rotated and stocked per standards.
- Manage markdowns as per company standards.
- Assist in hiring, training, managing store personnel, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Assist in scheduling, cross-training staff, and ensuring adequate product knowledge.
- Address performance issues timely with HR support.
- Maintain clear communication with staff, conduct staff meetings, and post company information.
- Ensure safety guidelines are followed at all times.
- Complete store paperwork and reports timely.
- Respond to departmental calls and assist with coverage as needed.
- Handle disruptions such as loiterers, solicitations, weather emergencies, and bathroom misuse.
- Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, approximately 45 hours per week.
- Lead by example, setting standards of excellence and professionalism.

Qualifications
Recipe for Success:
- High school diploma or GED; 1-2 years management experience in grocery or retail, natural foods experience a plus.
- Ability to manage changing priorities.
- Ability to pass food safety training and obtain necessary certifications.
- Must obtain forklift certification.
- Maintain up-to-date food safety certifications.
- Highly organized with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
- Cashier trained.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
