The Assistant Store Manager is the second in command of the store, responsible for ensuring successful operations and profitability by training, directing, and monitoring staff across departments.

Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Greet and serve customers according to company standards of World Class customer service.
- Provide professional leadership as a company manager.
- Handle customer complaints appropriately following company policy.
- Maintain an inviting and shoppable store environment.
- Ensure desired products are in stock.
- Handle special orders per company policy.
- Answer phones per standards and spend at least 75% of time on the sales floor assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to departments.
- Train staff to deliver exemplary customer service and ensure accountability.
- Ensure staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registrations.
- Meet and exceed store and department sales, sales per labor hour, average ticket, customer count, COGS for produce, and EBITDA targets.
- Order products from correct vendors to maintain margins and discounts.
- Monitor stock levels and product mix, analyze departments regularly, and introduce new products as per policy.
- Manage perishables, markdowns, and stock rotation standards.
- Assist in hiring, training, managing, and evaluating store personnel.
- Develop staff schedules, assign tasks, and monitor task completion.
- Partner with department managers for staff sharing and cross-training.
- Ensure staff has adequate product knowledge and training resources.
- Participate in performance evaluations and wage adjustments with input from department managers.
- Handle hiring and disciplinary issues promptly with HR support.
- Maintain clear communication, conduct staff meetings, and post company updates.
- Ensure safety guidelines are followed at all times.
- Complete all operational paperwork and reports timely.
- Respond to departmental calls and assist with coverage as needed.
- Manage disruptions such as loitering, solicitation, weather emergencies, and facility misuse.
- Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, averaging 45 hours per week.
- Support decision-making and communicate effectively with home office directives.
- Be a role model in professionalism and excellence in the workplace.

Qualifications
Recipe for Success:
- High school diploma or GED; 1-2 years management experience in grocery or retail, natural foods experience a plus.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Capability to pass food safety training and obtain necessary certifications.
- Must obtain forklift certification.
- Maintain up-to-date food safety certifications through ongoing education.
- Highly organized with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Follow directions and execute tasks diligently.
- Cashier trained.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
