The Assistant Store Manager is the second-in-command of the store, responsible for its successful operation and profitability. This includes training, directing, and monitoring all department staff.

Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Greeting and servicing customers according to company standards of World Class customer service.
- Providing professional leadership as expected of all company managers.
- Handling customer complaints appropriately and in accordance with company policy.
- Maintaining an inviting and shoppable store environment.
- Ensuring products customers want are in stock.
- Handling special orders per company policy.
- Answering phones per company standards and spending at least 75% of time on the sales floor assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to all departments.
- Training staff to deliver exemplary customer service and holding them accountable.
- Ensuring staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registrations.
- Meeting and exceeding expectations in sales, sales per labor hour ratio, average ticket, customer count, COGS for produce, and EBITDA.
- Ordering products from correct vendors to maintain margins and receive correct discounts.
- Monitoring stock conditions and product mix, including analysis of departments, introducing new products, and managing perishables and markdowns.
- Assisting in hiring, training, managing, and evaluating store personnel.
- Maintaining accurate scheduling, sharing staffing resources with department managers, and cross-training staff.
- Ensuring staff has adequate product knowledge and training them accordingly.
- Participating in staff performance evaluations and disciplinary actions with HR support.
- Maintaining clear communication, conducting staff meetings, and posting company information.
- Following safety guidelines at all times.
- Completing all operational responsibilities and store paperwork timely.
- Responding to departmental calls and managing business disruptions as needed.
- Working a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, around 45 hours per week.
- Leading by setting a high standard of excellence and professionalism.

Qualifications
Recipe for Success:
- High school diploma or GED required; 1-2 years management experience in grocery or related retail, natural foods experience a plus.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to pass food safety training and obtain certifications as required by law.
- Must obtain forklift certification.
- Maintain up-to-date food safety certifications through continuing education.
- Highly organized with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
- Cashier trained.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
