JOB PURPOSE

This position contributes to Blarney Castle’s success by assisting the store manager in providing work direction to a team of store associates to create and maintain our standards of service, cleanliness, and product quality for our customers. The assistant manager will be responsible for executing daily store operations during their assigned shift by being a front of the store leader, connecting with customers, employees and providing coaching opportunities. Assists the manager in identifying ways to drive results, managing costs and ensuring a welcoming environment that surprises and delights our customers in full compliance with Company standards and state and federal laws.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. 1.High school diploma or equivalent is required.
2. 2.Two years progressively responsible retail experience.
3. 3.Demonstrated good math skills in order to calculate change, volume sales, tax percentages, balance cash registers, and to calculate deli inventory usage, weights, costs and volumes.
4. 4.Able to read, write, understand and apply instructions, procedures, recipes, and training materials.
5. 5.Strong interpersonal communication skills, in both verbal and written form to leadership standards. Able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including internal team members, customers and vendors. Able to manage through a fast-paced work environment.

7. 7.Demonstrated computer literacy in business operations. Experience with Point of Sale, HR and standard Microsoft Office products helpful.

9. 9.Reliable personal transportation and proof of auto insurance in order to complete banking responsibilities and other off-site business activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. 1.Display a customer comes first attitude by ensuring every customer is provided with immediate and undivided attention of the staff. Ensure customer complaints are resolved in a timely and appropriate manner.
2. 2.Assist the Store Manager by supporting the implementation of Company programs by following established action plans and motivating employees to meet operational objectives. Promote an environment for effective teamwork where employees feel valued and respected.
3. 3.Identify, communicate, and delegate appropriate responsibilities to employees to ensure a smooth flow of operations.
4. 4.Create a positive learning environment by providing clear, specific, and timely coaching to employees on shift to ensure operational excellences and to improve employee performance.
5. 5.Assist with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and providing respectful and encouraging coaching as needed. Provides feedback to store manager on employee’s performance during shift.
6. 6.Demonstrate a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events and manages a smooth transition thereafter to maintain store operating standards and to set a positive example for employees.
7. 7.Assist in the execution of marketing, fuel, and food strategies. Assist in the implementation of approved promotions and works with the manager to ensure stock availability.
8. 8.Ensure that pricing and inventory levels are properly maintained to established standards. Orders inventory as needed and monitors vendor performance.
9. 9.Follow all company policies, procedures, and practices. Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws within the scope of convenience store and gas station operations. Monitors team compliance and trains or coaches as necessary. Reports events or concerns to the Store Manager.
10. 10.Prepare and delivers deposits to the appropriate bank. Reconciles daily receipts with PDI resolving any variances.
11. 11.Ensure maintenance issues are properly communicated and resolved in a timely manner.
12. 12.Ensure safety and security policies are followed by serving as the store’s Safety Captain. Conducts safety audits and ensures employees follow all safety procedures. Leads safety meetings and presents corporate safety topics.
13. 13.Respond to unusual or emergency situations outside of normal business hours as necessary.
14. 14.Perform all work on-site at assigned store location.
15. 15.Follow company policies and procedures.
16. 16.Complete training within established deadlines.
17. 17.Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

1. 1.Work is performed in a convenience store environment, and may also be performed outdoors on occasion. Work will also be performed inside walk-in coolers.
2. 2.Frequent manual hand and finger dexterity work.
3. 3.Lift up to approximately 50 pounds, stoop, bend, reach, and continuously walk or remain in a standing position for extended periods.
4. 4.Occasionally ascend and descend a five-foot step ladder.
5. 5.Reading alpha-numeric data on cash registers, electronic devices and documents.
6. 6.Meet driver’s license physical qualification requirements.
