The Job in a Nutshell:
The Assistant Store Manager is the second in command of the store, responsible for its successful operation and profitability, including training, directing, and monitoring all department staff.

Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure customers are greeted and serviced according to company standards of World Class customer service.
- Provide professional leadership as expected of all company managers.
- Handle customer complaints appropriately and according to company policy.
- Maintain an inviting and shoppable store environment.
- Ensure products customers want are in stock.
- Handle special orders appropriately per company policy.
- Answer the phone per company standards and spend at least 75% of time assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to all departments on the sales floor.
- Train staff to deliver exemplary customer service and hold them accountable.
- Ensure staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registrations.
- Meet and/or exceed expectations in sales, sales per labor hour, average ticket, customer count, COGS for produce, and EBITDA.
- Order products from correct vendors to maintain margins and receive appropriate discounts.
- Maintain in-stock conditions as per standards.
- Monitor product mix, analyze departments regularly, keep top sellers, discontinue slow movers, and introduce new products per policy.
- Manage perishables with proper rotation and stocking.
- Manage markdowns per standards.
- Assist in hiring, training, and managing store personnel.
- Train staff, assign tasks, and ensure task completion.
- Maintain accurate and timely schedules and assign tasks daily.
- Partner with department managers to share staff and cross-train employees.
- Ensure staff have adequate product knowledge to meet customer needs.
- Assist in performance evaluations and wage increase decisions.
- Participate in hiring and disciplinary processes with HR support.
- Maintain clear communication through staff meetings and postings.
- Ensure safety guidelines are followed.
- Complete operational responsibilities and store paperwork accurately and timely.
- Respond to department calls and assist with coverage as needed.
- Manage business disruptions as they occur.
- Work a schedule based on store needs, including evenings and weekends, for 45 hours per week.
- Support company decisions, follow communications, and adapt to changing demands.
- Lead by example, setting standards of excellence and professionalism.

Qualifications
Recipe for Success:
- High school diploma or GED; 1-2 years management experience in grocery or related retail; experience in natural foods is a plus.
- Ability to manage changing priorities effectively.
- Ability to pass food safety training and obtain necessary certifications.
- Must obtain forklift certification.
- Maintain up-to-date food safety certifications through continuing education.
- Strong organizational skills and a sense of urgency.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
- Must be cashier trained.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
