Summary
The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties specific to that role, though most responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service
- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
- Answer questions regarding the store and merchandise.
- Help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs.
- Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.
- Demonstrate product knowledge and share sales education with the Team.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices.
- Achieve personal sales goals and contribute to store sales targets.
- Provide excellent service across all store areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
- Understand exchange and return procedures and turn them into showmanship opportunities.
- Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to meet goals.
- Engage in business-building activities like fit appointments and guest loyalty programs.
- Build and maintain good Guest relationships to develop a client-based business.
- Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness.
- Recognize and communicate Guest levels with the Team.
- Ask business-driven and showmanship questions regularly.
- Be coachable and receptive to feedback to improve sales presentations.
- Perform leadership actions and uphold high standards consistently.
- Plan sales goals with the Store Manager.
- Demonstrate ownership of the store’s sales performance.
- Show passion for product education and showmanship.
Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development
- Recognize recruiting opportunities using various tools and referrals.
- Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty programs.
- Lead, motivate, and educate new Teammates to meet standards.
- Maintain a positive attitude to foster a positive store culture.
- Follow dress code and participate in daily training and reviews.
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks.
- Demonstrate and coach denim showmanship and fit cards.
- Create results in your department and complete mid-week check-ins.
- Execute departmental actions and delegate accordingly.
- Lead segments and involve guests with product.
- Update and communicate with the team regularly.
- Remember and use Guest names effectively.
- Show merchandise knowledge for both Gals’ and Guys’ sections.
- Partner with the Store Manager on education focus and delegate tasks.
- Assist in recruitment and training of staff.
- Stay updated on pay, benefits, and contact top talent.
- Train with the leadership playbook and ensure all characteristic pieces are maintained.
- Lead SPG training shifts and coach non-sales positions.
- Execute sales focus actions proactively.
- Identify and address Teammate training needs.
Visual Merchandise Management
- Own product zones, recognize and assign zones and projects.
- Demonstrate new tools and videos related to zone ownership.
- Delegate and review visual standards with the Store Manager.
- Ensure adherence to visual standards and visual library.
- Recognize merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations.
- Conduct informative store tours.
- Maintain consistent store sizing and freight display.
- Use the Performance Tracker to improve visual results.
- Anticipate product changes and act independently to improve visual presentation.
- Maintain visual standards on the floor and in the backroom.
Operations
- Work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Utilize planners and complete opening and closing checklists.
- Recognize security risks and thefts, and handle them appropriately.
- Follow Loss Prevention guidelines and POS procedures.
- Handle calls from Corporate Office professionally.
- Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations.
- Follow policies on payments, returns, exchanges, and Loss Prevention.
- Navigate and utilize store tools effectively.
- Provide feedback on merchandise handling concerns.
- Communicate policy violations or concerns confidentially.
- Understand and apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and policies.
- Complete all scheduled shifts and cover shifts when necessary.
- Keep the store clean, organized, and shoppable.
- Assist with merchandise markdowns, freight, recalls, and RTVs.
- Establish and maintain communication with Corporate Office departments.
- Monitor inventory supplies and handle emergencies in the absence of the Store Manager.
Supervisory and Leadership
- Support and give feedback to peers and management.
- Promote personal and store growth.
- Maintain professional relationships with all Teammates.
- Conduct interviews to support team development.
- Overcome objections and solve problems.
- Self-educate on company tools and share knowledge.

- Travel and cover other stores as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Assist the Store Manager in supervising the team.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED; 1-3 months retail experience or equivalent.

Physical Demands
Regularly stand, walk, handle objects, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk/hear. Occasionally sit. Must lift up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
Work Environment
Work primarily in a retail store environment with moderate noise levels.
