General Purpose
Responsible for managing and supervising all areas assigned by the Store Manager, following policies regarding Customers, Associates, and merchandising. Responsible for learning all phases of Store operations. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager leads the entire store to ensure company standards and best practices are met.
Essential Functions
- General Operating Requirements
- Leads all Company Best Practices and maximizes productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
- Assists in analyzing Store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall Store performance.
- Communicates variances to Company standards to the Store Manager.
- Ensures proper scheduling of Associates to meet business objectives.
- Ensures compliance with all State, Local, and Federal regulations.
- Accepts special assignments as directed by Leadership.
- Responsible for payroll administration including daily punch edits, Associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting as needed.
- Organizational Development
- Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non-exempt Associates.
- Ensures compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
- Assists with Associate Relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager as needed.
- Expense Control
- Assists in managing and monitoring actual expenditures within budget.
- Controls payroll hours to plan, adjusting to current business trends.
- Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
- Understands safety is the top priority and practices safe behaviors.
- Ensures all Associates understand and can execute emergency procedures.
- Maintains adherence to safety policies, ensuring safety of Associates and Customers.
- Assists in facilitating monthly safety meetings.
- Customer Service
- Treats all Customers, Associates, and other leaders with respect.
- Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism. Recognizes Associates using recognition programs.
- Executes customer service and merchandise presentation programs through training and supervision.
- Supervises and coaches Associates in providing friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, and sales floor.
- Personal and Store Brand
- Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
- Maintains a professional appearance per Dress Code.
- Ensures a clean, organized, and easy-to-shop environment.
- Maintains high standards of housekeeping with contracted maintenance and Ross Associates.
- Merchandise Processing and In-Store Marketing
- Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet Company standards.
- Organizes merchandise according to Company guidelines.
- Manages merchandise processing efficiently to the sales floor.
- Loss Prevention
- Trains Associates on Loss Prevention awareness and store shortage goals.
- Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions.
- Safeguards confidential information and merchandise.
- Responsible for Store Loss Prevention, including inventory and out-of-stock policies.

Qualifications And Skills
- Two or more years of Store or Assistant Store Manager experience in retail.
- Ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively with Store Associates.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give directions, and follow through.
- Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
- Maintain high-quality Customer service.
- Fluency in English.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Basic mathematical skills used in retail.
Physical Requirements/Ada
- Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC.
- Stand, walk, and move around the Store up to 100% of the time.
- Regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Occasionally push, pull, and lift over 25 lbs.
- Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
- Other qualifications and skills as required.

Direct supervision of all non-exempt Associates.
