We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Store Director to join Meijer at our Fraser, MI Store Location. As an Assistant Store Director, you will provide leadership related to store operations, processes, and conditions. You will plan, direct, and supervise the team in the day-to-day operation of the store. You will be responsible for the selection, training, development, and performance management of all team members within your span of care. Developing strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, and increase profitability will be key. You will ensure customer needs are met, complaints are resolved effectively and efficiently, and service is quick and efficient. Additionally, you will ensure that all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability. Forecast staffing needs and develop recruiting strategies to provide optimal staffing across all areas. You will work in a manner that reflects the Meijer brand and values.

Purpose:

The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Overall operations responsibility across food and general merchandise areas.
  • Management of planograms, seasonal resets, and endcaps across the store.
  • Engaging team members and leadership to provide the best shopping experience.
  • Creating a culture that drives positive team member engagement to retain and recruit talent.
  • Identifying, selecting, and developing talent within the store.
  • Upholding cultural standards and values through open, clear, and effective communication.
  • Assessing financial results and implementing strategies to drive profitability.
  • Developing strategies to improve customer service, store sales, and profitability.
  • Ensuring customer needs are met, complaints are resolved, and service is efficient.
  • Merchandising products and displays to maximize sales.
  • Being a strong community partner by cultivating local relationships.

What You'll be Doing:

Assist the Store Director in overall store operations as needed. Lead performance management activities, attract and retain a supportive team, and communicate effectively with staff. Drive performance metrics such as sales, shrink, labor, margin, and customer satisfaction. Implement new initiatives, stay informed of market trends, and ensure compliance with safety and food standards. Engage with the community and support the Meijer brand.

  • Lead daily store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Manage performance reviews, career development, and promotions.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Conduct daily communication with the team, including huddles and updates.
  • Ensure adherence to product freshness standards and operational procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of competitive trends and store strengths and weaknesses.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of retail/grocery/operations management/customer service experience.
  • 4+ years of progressive leadership experience.
  • A passion for leading teams and providing industry-leading service.

  • Understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising.
  • Strong business acumen.
