We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Store Director to join Meijer at our Canton, MI Store Location.

As an Assistant Store Director, you will provide direction related to operations, processes, and conditions of the store. You will plan, direct, and supervise the team in the day-to-day operation of the store. You will be responsible for the selection, training, development, and performance management of all team members in your span of care. Your role includes developing strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, and increase profitability. You will ensure customer needs are met, complaints are resolved effectively and efficiently, and service is quick and efficient. Additionally, you will ensure that all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability. You will forecast staffing needs and develop recruiting strategies to provide optimal staffing in all areas, reflecting the Meijer brand and values.

Purpose:

The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Overall operations responsibility across food and general merchandise areas.
  • Management of planograms, seasonal resets, and endcaps.
  • Engaging team members and leadership to provide the best shopping experience.
  • Creating a culture that drives positive team member engagement to retain and recruit talent.
  • Identifying, selecting, and developing talent within the store.
  • Upholding cultural standards and values through open, clear, and effective communication.
  • Assessing financial results and implementing strategies to drive profitability.
  • Developing strategies to improve customer service, sales, and profitability.
  • Ensuring customer needs are met and complaints are resolved efficiently.
  • Merchandising products and displays to maximize sales.
  • Building community relationships to support the Meijer brand.

What You'll be Doing:

Assist the Store Director in running overall store operations as needed.

  • Lead performance management activities for leaders and team members, including performance ratings, career development, and promotions.
  • Attract, select, and retain a team supporting Meijer's culture, including valuing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Communicate daily with the team, sharing financial performance, customer feedback, recognition, and other important information.
  • Drive open communication based on Meijer's philosophy of Care and Accountability.
  • Ensure product freshness standards and compliance with processes and procedures.
  • Manage store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Verify adherence to food safety standards.
  • Engage with the community and customers to foster relationships.
  • Deliver on key performance metrics such as sales, shrink, labor, margin, net profit, customer satisfaction, and safety.
  • Implement new initiatives identified by store operations, staying informed of market trends and customer needs.
  • Oversee daily DSD execution, backroom, and salesfloor excellence.
  • Monitor competitive trends and strengths/weaknesses of competitors.
  • Follow company merchandising planograms and utilize the 85/15 rule for planning, including ordering, weekly ads, displays, and pricing.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of retail, grocery, operations management, or customer service experience.
  • 4+ years of progressive leadership experience.
  • A passion for leading teams and providing industry-leading service.
  • Proactive and creative thinking skills.
  • Understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer/community needs and increase sales.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Innovative attitude to help Meijer set industry standards.
