Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking an Assistant Wildlife Veterinarian at the Thorne/Williams Wildlife Research Center (TWRC) in Sybille Canyon. This role involves overseeing daily operations of the TWRC, including wildlife care, maintenance of facilities, and supervision of staff. The position requires residence in department-provided housing, participation in weekend and holiday rotations, and responding to after-hours emergencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide veterinary care for research animals and wildlife
  • Oversee facility operations and maintenance
  • Supervise TWRC personnel
  • Design and supervise wildlife research
  • Assist with budget and procurement
  • Manage controlled substances
  • Maintain compliance with USDA Animal Welfare Act
  • Provide medical prescriptions and directives
  • Deliver informational presentations
  • Conduct necropsies and interpret diagnostics
  • Participate in departmental committees and fieldwork
PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS:

Preference for candidates with experience in large/mixed animal veterinary medicine, handling techniques, and research facility maintenance. Travel required. Must have a DVM, 2-4 years of relevant experience, and licenses including Wyoming veterinary license, DEA registration, and USDA accreditation.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to perform field activities and lift over 50 lbs
  • Operate motorized equipment safely
  • Work in various weather conditions, including evenings and early mornings
NOTES:
  • FLSA: Exempt
  • Residence in department housing required, located 35+ miles from Laramie and Wheatland, WY
