Job summary

Boyd Gaming is seeking an Assistant Starter to join the starting gate crew on race days. You will guide horses into their starting positions with precision and lead the team in executing smooth gate operations.

On race days you will coordinate schooling sessions, monitor horse behavior, and maintain the special needs list to ensure every horse gets proper prep and attention. This role requires stamina, strong communication, and a proactive attitude.

Qualifications

• Legal adult (18+) status.
• Horse handling ability and a way to communicate with horses.
• Experience at a starting gate is a plus; willingness to learn.
• Natural leadership to direct both humans and horses with clear, effective communication.
• High physical stamina and ability to move in all weather.
• Positive attitude toward obtaining licenses/certifications with company help.
• Ability to work harmoniously with a horse-loving community and give clear directions.
