Job summary

Littleton High School is seeking a qualified assistant coach to help run the Speech and Debate Club. Ideal candidates have strong debate experience and can balance progressive and traditional styles, with encouragement for those not strictly focused on debate.

This position involves staying informed on rules, meeting with students regularly, and judging at tournaments. It requires teaching theories and skills, conducting practices, and collaborating with other coaches to grow the program.

Qualifications

• Comfort with public speaking and event formats.

Responsibilities

• Stay informed on rules and judging standards for forensic events and set practice expectations for students entering tournaments.
• Meet with students regularly, about 2x per week.
• Supervise and judge weekend and evening tournaments, roughly 11 events per season, mostly Saturdays with some Fridays.
• Oct–Apr flexibility on total events attended.
• Teach theories and skills of various competition events and support research for competitions.
• Lead practices to reinforce and assess skill development.
• Continuously assess program strengths and weaknesses to drive yearly improvement.
• Coordinate with other speech/debate coaches to support team goals.

Littleton High School is seeking a qualified assistant coach to help run the Speech and Debate Club.

Our team was first registered with the NSDA in 1936 as Charter #692. We are looking for someone to join this 90 year legacy and help us nurture and grow a competitive program with a deep history.

The ideal candidate has strong debate experience and is able to balance both progressive and traditional styles. Non-debate centric candidates and candidates with depth in other events are also encouraged to apply.

This position involves:

• Staying informed on rules, procedures and judging standards for forensic events, setting practice/behavior standards required for students to enter tournaments;
• Meeting with students on a regular basis (~2x / week)
• Supervise and judge at weekend and evening tournaments;11 tournaments 2x per month
  mostly Saturdays, occasional Friday evenings
• Oct to April – some flexibility around total number attended
• Teaching students theories and skills underlying the various competition events, facilitating acquisition of literacy material and research information for competitions
• Conducting practices and drills to reinforce and assess skill development
• Continuously assessing strengths and weaknesses of the program to improve it from year to year
• Meet with other speech and debate coaches as needed to support team goals and development
• Previous experience with debate, theater or public speaking prefered but not required

$39.50 (cash/check) background check and fingerprint fee due upon hire.
